At least five people, including the driver and four women passengers, were killed after a tourist bus lost control and crashed into a large roadside rock in Nayagarh late Friday night. The accident occurred when the bus, carrying over 40 passengers from Berhampur to Harishankar, overturned following the impact.
The collision was severe, with several passengers thrown out of the vehicle while others were trapped beneath the mangled structure. The victims have been identified as the driver and four passengers from Berhampur.
Rescue teams, including local police and fire services, rushed to the spot and launched an extensive operation. Those trapped were pulled out using gas cutters, while the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
More than 20 passengers sustained injuries, with around 15 reported to be in critical condition and referred to the District Headquarters Hospital. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
